Yemen’s armed forces have intensified operations under the Dawn of Yemen campaign, striking military targets and reporting advances in Marib, Taiz, and the Bab el-Mandeb strait. Meanwhile, regional fallout escalates as coalition defenses intercept cross-border ballistic threats.
Operation Dawn of Yemen Unleashes Thousands of Strikes Across Front Lines
Launched on October 5, 2026, the comprehensive military campaign aims to restore state institutions and dismantle Houthi control across the country.
Military spokespersons reported an unprecedented volume of firepower directed at insurgent infrastructure. According to official briefings, forces executed more than 2,750 targeted strikes within a single 24-hour window, hitting command centers, ammunition depots, supply routes, and artillery positions.
Colonel Majid Al-Nujaili said, Over the past 24 hours, our armed forces have carried out, as part of an operation
The sustained air campaign operates in tandem with the coalition, which separately announced the destruction of 136 military targets. Coalition officials emphasized that the aerial support is systematically dismantling the group’s capabilities.
Ground Advances in Marib, Taiz, and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait
On the ground, government forces and allied factions, including the Southern Giants Brigades and Nation Shield forces, have pressed forward on multiple contested fronts. In Marib’s southern sector, troops pushed through heavily mined terrain to seize strategic heights, including the Thamad, Al-Qaymah, and Al-Muqailat mountain ranges.
Fighting has similarly intensified around Taiz and the strategic maritime corridor of Bab el-Mandeb. Units operating in the area have worked to secure coastal approaches and clear remaining insurgent pockets. Local forces successfully repelled infiltration attempts near the Zabab airport, neutralizing armored vehicles and cutting off reinforcement routes. Simultaneously, Prime Minister Shaya Al-Zindani directed the Ministry of Interior to ready security arrangements for areas returning to state control while urging the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to rally international backing for the campaign.

Regional Spillover
The domestic escalation has quickly spilled across international borders.
Humanitarian agencies report that the renewed violence continues to exact a heavy toll on civilians. The UN refugee agency estimates that more than 174,000 people have been displaced by recent fighting, while the World Health Organization has recorded 959 deaths and 4,207 injuries as authorities press their campaign to secure critical maritime and overland supply lines.
