Egyptian star Ghada Abdel Razek has clarified that she has been married five times, addressing years of exaggerated reports.

For years, public fascination with the private life of Egyptian actress Ghada Abdel Razek led to widely circulated rumors claiming she had been married anywhere from ten to thirteen times. In an interview with Anas Bukhash on the program ABtalks, the star settled the controversy surrounding her marital history by confirming the actual figure.

She explained that she sometimes intentionally stated larger numbers, such as ten or twelve, as a form of provocation against media outlets and online platforms that published inaccurate information about her personal life without verifying facts or contacting her directly. She also mentioned that she had been married five times and loved all five husbands, even though some choices proved to be mistakes, and noted that she is currently separated and not looking to marry again.

“When I form a connection with someone and develop feelings for them, my feelings translate into marriage. I don’t like getting into relationships; my nature, or perhaps the upbringing I received, created this in me without me realizing it. I don’t like the word ‘dating’; if we’re going to date, then let’s go out to dinner, lunch, or breakfast,” Ghada Abdel Razek told Al Masry Al Youm.

Reflecting on her romantic history, she emphasized that she loved all five of her husbands and that every marriage stemmed from genuine feelings and a desire for stability and security. She added that she has been separated from her last husband for four years and does not plan to marry again, preferring to focus on other priorities in her life.

Decades of Mental Health Treatment and Stopping Medication

Abdel Razek opened up about a long-standing personal struggle, detailing her journey with psychological treatment that began when she was 32 years old. She coped with anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression for nearly 24 years, mentioning that she suffered from depression and fear and also experienced periods of depression and anxiety.

Rather than seeking professional care abroad or entering a residential clinic, she made an abrupt decision to stop taking all psychiatric medications entirely on her own about one year and eight months ago.

“From the age of 32 until two years ago, I was taking medication! Then, overnight, I decided to stop everything. I didn’t travel abroad for treatment, and I didn’t check into any of those rehab facilities people talk about. I actually did it, thank God, and I never went back to it again, thank God… I learned how to cry, and that is important! The medication used to shut off that feeling of wanting to cry,” according to Hiamag.

She noted that quitting the regimen allowed her to reconnect with her emotions, stating that the medications had previously suppressed her ability to cry naturally. She also recalled an experience during a medical operation when questions asked by her daughters about her medications prompted her to rethink taking them.

Early Losses Shaped Abdel Razek and Her Parenting

The conversation also touched upon formative griefs from her early years. She recalled the sudden death of her father at age 59 when she was just 12 years old, describing him as the primary pillar of support for the family. She subsequently lost her brother Khalil following an incident abroad where the family waited 15 days to receive confirmation of the news, as well as her sister Susan and her mother.

Abdel Razek discussed her mother’s strict parenting style in the aftermath of those losses, noting that the discipline helped shape her and prepared her to raise her own daughter, Rotana.
