A 19-year-old Norwegian national has been sentenced to 20 years in detention at Woolwich Crown Court after traveling to England to commit a contract killing on behalf of an international crime ring linked to Iran. Johannes Kongsnes Natland was arrested by armed police in a West Yorkshire hotel room in March 2025.
Teenager Arrested With Firearms in Huddersfield Hotel
Johannes Kongsnes Natland flew from his home in Stavanger, Norway, to Manchester Airport on a temporary passport on March 17 last year. He was guided closely by an online handler who went by the alias Agent 47
in an apparent reference to the Hitman video game and film franchise.
Stopped initially by Border Force officials, Natland was bailed to catch a direct return flight home. Instead, he took a taxi to Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, checked into the Briar Court Hotel, and retrieved £2,000 in cash alongside a semi-automatic pistol, a revolver, and 12 rounds of live ammunition.
Armed police moved in at 5:15 a.m. on March 19, 2025. Natland left a trail of digital evidence that included selfies with the weapons and cash spread across his hotel bed, alongside boasting messages to his girlfriend that he had the bangs in the bag
.
During the arrest, the teenager imitated holding a firearm and pretended to shoot one of the responding officers. He later admitted to possessing the firearms and ammunition but denied conspiracy to murder, telling jurors at his Old Bailey trial that he never intended to carry out the assignment and had planned to shoot himself in the foot instead.
Criminal Network Recruits Operatives Through Social Media
Investigators established that Natland was recruited through social media by the Foxtrot Network, a proscribed Swedish organized crime group founded by Kurdish-born gangster Rawa Majid. Counterterrorism officials from the Metropolitan Police testified that the syndicate has been utilized by the Iranian regime to orchestrate attacks against Jewish and Israeli targets across Europe. Both the United States and the United Kingdom have placed Foxtrot and its leadership under sanctions, enforcing asset freezes to block the network from handling economic assets.
Sentencing at Woolwich Crown Court
During a televised sentencing hearing at Woolwich Crown Court in southeast London, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb rejected the defense’s characterization of Natland as an unwilling participant who wanted a way out of the assignment. The judge sentenced the former youth footballer to 20 years in detention, ordering that he serve a minimum of 13 years behind bars before he can be considered for release.

The Foxtrot network is an organised crime group which has developed an arm’s-length method of recruiting young people to carry out violent crimes. You were recruited to travel to England to kill an unidentified target.
Justice Cheema-Grubb
Defense attorney Paul Hynes KC pointed to his client’s youth and background as a successful student and sportsman prior to developing a drug addiction that derailed his life. However, Justice Cheema-Grubb emphasized that messages retrieved from Natland’s communications demonstrated active enthusiasm for the mission. You agreed to be the enforcer and pursued it, despite numerous opportunities to extricate yourself,
the judge told him.
Authorities Arrest Syndicate Members Across Multiple Countries
The UK prosecution forms part of a wider international investigation into the Foxtrot syndicate’s recruitment pipeline targeting minors and young adults for violence-as-a-service operations across Europe. Natland’s primary recruiter, a 17-year-old youth known as Generalen
, was convicted by a court in Norway of attempting to contribute to murder and sentenced to 14 years in custody. Swedish police separately detained Ali Shehab Ahmed, a senior Foxtrot figure suspected of operating as Agent 47, in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, in December.

A 27-year-old man in the UK was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.
That man remains released under investigation following his apprehension in September 2025, and two men arrested in Bradford in May on suspicion of handling stolen vehicle goods are currently on bail.
