Dorothy Moon says Idaho voters rejected Proposition 1

Idaho Election Results and the Defeat of Proposition 1

In a column published November 5, 2026, on the Idaho GOP website, Idaho Republican Party Chairwoman Dorothy Moon announced that Idaho voters rejected Proposition 1 by a margin of 56% to 44%. Moon characterized the outcome as a significant victory, asserting that the result ensures preborn babies will still be protected in Idaho.

The effort to defeat the measure involved a coalition of organizations and faith-based groups, including Stop Prop 1, the White Rose Resistance, the LDS Church, and the Catholic Church. Moon credited these groups for their role in defending what she described as the state’s pro-life culture against what she termed out-of-state interests. According to the party chair, defeating the proposal had been her top priority for more than a year.

Statewide Election Outcomes and Congressional Retention

Beyond the results of Proposition 1, the Idaho Republican Party secured re-election for all seven of its statewide officers. The state’s three-member congressional delegation will also return to Washington, D.C.

Moon specifically addressed the re-election of Sen. Jim Risch, who faced a challenge from a former Democratic state legislator running as an independent. Despite raising nearly $2 million—a good chunk of which came from out of state—Moon stated that the independent candidate received roughly the same share of the vote as previous challengers.

Idaho GOP Maintains Legislative Supermajority Amid National Struggles

While describing the national political environment as difficult for Republicans, Moon acknowledged that Tuesday was a rough day for the party across the country. She blamed these nationwide difficulties on issues such as inflation, gas prices, the conflict in Iran, and the viewpoint that the Trump administration had lost touch with the everyday working-class voters who helped return him to the White House.

Despite losing legislative seats in three swing districts, the Idaho GOP maintained its supermajority in both the House and the Senate. Moon contrasted this performance with the results in other red states, noting that the Idaho Republican Party intends to continue advancing policies aligned with its existing platform.

Idaho Aims to Model Conservative Leadership and Economic Growth

Anticipating the upcoming term, Moon contended that citizens nationwide will seek guidance as Congress bogs down in unending probes and gridlock, and as the public experiences firsthand how Democratic agendas trade prosperity for greater hardship. She posited that Idaho is ready to provide that leadership.

The column concluded with a focus on the state’s potential to demonstrate that it is possible to maintain economic growth and prosperity while maintaining values of faith, family, and freedom. Moon suggested that Idaho can be a beacon to the nation, emphasizing that the state’s political direction remains focused on expanding freedom and opportunity for all.
