Alexander Kristopher Cowley Held on $500,000 Bond
An 11-year veteran of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office is behind bars facing charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child. Alexander Kristopher Cowley, 40, was taken into custody following an arrest warrant signed on Wednesday. fox26houston.com reported that the Texas Department of Public Safety led the investigation that resulted in the deputy’s arrest.
Court records show the allegations span an eight-year period, dating from 2016 to 2024. The victim is a 13-year-old girl whom Cowley knew personally, according to details presented during his initial court appearance on Thursday night, October 30, 2026. Prosecutors initially pushed for a $1 million bond, arguing that the suspect posed a severe flight risk after allegedly stating prior to his arrest that he would flee to England if caught. A judge ultimately ordered Cowley held on a $500,000 bond and issued a protective order.
Sheriff Places Arrested Deputy on Paid Leave
At the time of his arrest, Cowley was assigned to the agency’s Critical Incident Response Team. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Cowley has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings against him. Houston Public Media noted that jail records show the suspect was booked into the Harris County Jail on Wednesday.

Investigators stated in court documents that Cowley allegedly coached the victim to conceal the abuse. Prosecutors and law enforcement have not released further specifics regarding how the investigation originated or whether additional victims have been identified.
Unresolved Legal Proceedings
As of late Thursday afternoon, court records indicated that Cowley had not yet been formally appointed defense counsel. Bond amounts for specific secondary conditions and future court dates have not yet been published in county systems.
