A distracted driver using a mobile device crashed a semi-truck on Interstate 15 in Bingham County, the Idaho State Police reported, blocking lanes as emergency crews responded to the afternoon accident northwest of Blackfoot.
The single-vehicle crash happened on Friday, October 30, 2026, at approximately 3:14 p.m. at milepost 95. A 35-year-old male from North Carolina was driving a 2024 Volvo semi-truck pulling a refrigerated trailer southbound on the interstate when the vehicle drifted onto the right shoulder.
Overturned Rig Blocks Interstate 15 Lanes
According to the Idaho State Police, the driver attempted to steer the heavy commercial vehicle back onto the roadway, causing the semi to overturn. The rig came to rest partially blocking the right lane of travel. Authorities confirmed the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, though he sustained no injuries.
Tow crews deployed to the scene to remove the overturned semi-truck, while traffic control measures kept vehicles moving around the obstruction. The Bingham County Sheriff’s Office and the Blackfoot Fire Department assisted state troopers at the scene.
The incident remains under active investigation by District 5 of the Idaho State Police, headquartered in Pocatello. Anyone with questions regarding the response or traffic updates is directed to contact the District 5 Southeastern Idaho office.
Statewide Patrols Investigate Separate Incidents
The Bingham County wreck follows another recent fatal transit incident in the state. EIN Presswire reported that the Idaho State Police investigated a single-vehicle fatal crash in Canyon County on September 30, 2026. In that early morning incident in Caldwell, a 39-year-old male driver from Elgin, Texas, failed to negotiate a curve on Muller Drive in a 2024 Jeep Wrangler, causing the vehicle to overturn and catch fire. The driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene, and the roadway remained blocked for roughly five hours as local law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics, and the county coroner’s office responded.
Both autumn accidents remain under investigation by state authorities.
