Kalispell Chamber of Commerce Honors Local Business and Community Leaders

Honoring the Leaders Shaping Kalispell’s Future at the Annual Chamber Grand Event

Eight distinguished individuals, businesses, and organizations received recognition for their lasting contributions, innovation, and leadership during the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce’s Grand Event held Thursday at the Hilton Garden Inn.

Lorraine Clarno, president and CEO of the chamber, addressed attendees regarding the driving forces behind the region’s steady development. “Kalispell’s greatest strength has always been its people — those who are willing to take risks, build businesses, invest in others, and work together to create something bigger than themselves,” Clarno said. The honorees reflect both foundational legacy and modern entrepreneurial momentum across Northwest Montana.

Chamber Honors Late Paul D Wachholz with Legacy Award

The chamber’s highest accolade, the Flathead Legacy Award, was presented posthumously to Paul D. Wachholz, who passed away at age 89 on July 28. Wachholz built one of the largest real estate franchise in Montana and built the beer and wine distributorship Fun Beverage Inc. His philanthropic footprint spans healthcare, education, the arts, and community development, including substantial support for Flathead Valley Community College — home to the Paul D. Wachholz College Center and the Wachholz Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center — alongside a $5 million donation toward the Early Learning Center at Stillwater Christian School.

Businessperson of the Year honors went to Will Schmautz of Nomad GCS, a Kratos Company, for his visionary leadership in expanding economic opportunities and demonstrating that Montana-based enterprises can thrive on a national scale. Meanwhile, the Large Business of the Year award recognized the Glacier Range Riders, led by Chris Kelly, for establishing a vibrant hub of recreation, tourism, and community pride through professional baseball.
