Rep. Anthony Ealy responds to Jefferson City arrest charges

State Representative Anthony Ealy arrested in Jefferson City

Following his re-election to the Missouri House of Representatives this past Tuesday, Representative Anthony Ealy, of Grandview, was arrested in Jefferson City on Wednesday. According to a report by KRCG 13, the incident occurred on East Capitol Avenue, resulting in Ealy being booked into the Cole County Jail. He was charged with two misdemeanors: Fourth Degree Assault and Peace Disturbance. Court documents filed in the case indicated that authorities held Ealy without bond, citing him as a danger to the community.

The arrest comes at a complex time for the legislator. Marc Powers, the chief of staff for the Minority Leader’s Office, stated that Ealy had been removed from all his committees this past spring. According to Powers, the decision was made to allow Ealy to focus on personal issues. Democratic leaders had discouraged Ealy from seeking re-election, though he ultimately retained his House seat and secured 68% of the vote in his district on Tuesday.

Ealy responds to charges and alleges personal intimidation

On Friday, Ealy’s office provided a written response to a request for comment from KRCG 13. In the statement, Ealy maintained his innocence regarding the charges. He described the incident as a confrontation where he was the one approached, pushed, and chased with a bat. He further alleged that his private residence, which he noted is where a bunch of black senators and reps reside, had been invaded.

Missouri state representative arrested after being reelected

“Not guilty and Innocent. YHWH Yeshua. Blessing Annatoria Chitapa. I was the one approached, pushed and chased with a bat and my private residence invaded while I was just smoking a cigarette. I believe this has something to do with my Christian Faith, that I’m black and reelected. Something a prophecy. Remember the attached weird satanic symbol was placed in the kitchen above my head in my residence (where a bunch of black sentaors and reps reside) along with people who have shown up that we do not know. I do not know anything else, I want peace and for this to be wrapped up but thats all I have to say. Something else bigger is going on. YHWH Yeshua. My record speaks for itself. True prophets live through this mess.”

The allegations regarding the security of the residence and the nature of the confrontation remain central to Ealy’s defense.

The legislative path forward

The district Ealy represents has shown support for his candidacy, as evidenced by his 68% victory margin.
