Red River Valley SWAT team schedules training in Casselton and Fargo

The Red River Valley SWAT team will conduct a series of tactical training exercises today, Thursday, Nov. 5, across locations in Casselton and Fargo. Valley News Live reported that the drills are set to begin in the early afternoon, with law enforcement personnel operating in two distinct sessions throughout the day.

The first phase of the training is scheduled from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 342 Langer Ave. South in Casselton. Following this, the team will transition to a second session at the City of Fargo Water Treatment Plant, located at 435 14th Ave. South. This evening session is slated to run from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Officials warn residents of armed drills and loud noises

While the exercises are planned, officials have advised the public to expect a significant law enforcement presence. Residents near the designated locations may see team members moving around the exterior of the facilities while carrying firearms. Although the visual profile of the training will be high, authorities confirmed that no live rounds will be utilized during these sessions.

The nature of these tactical drills will likely involve loud noises and shouting. Despite the intensity of the simulation, officials emphasized that these are strictly scheduled exercises and pose no actual threat to the public. Both the Casselton and Fargo training sites are closed to the public and the media.

Reporting concerns during the exercises

For residents who may have questions or concerns while the training is underway, the Red River Dispatch Center has provided a dedicated line for inquiries. Individuals can contact the center at 701-451-7660 and request to speak with an on-site training facilitator.

This training serves as a routine, albeit highly visible, component of regional emergency preparedness. By utilizing critical infrastructure like the City of Fargo Water Treatment Plant for these simulations, the team maintains the readiness required to handle high-stakes scenarios. As the afternoon unfolds, the proximity of these drills to populated areas remains the primary factor for citizens to note, ensuring that the expected noise and tactical activity do not cause unnecessary alarm.
