Polly Davis, who built her life around her family as a devoted matriarch and cherished the bustling energy of Chicago alongside her home in Ottumwa, Iowa, passed away on October 22, 2026.
Early Life in Houston and Years in Iowa
Born in Houston, Texas, on December 8, 1952, Davis carried a lifelong appreciation for vibrant city life and lighthearted moments, which included a fondness for a good scary movie and a ready quip. While her younger years featured the bustling streets of Chicago as a cherished backdrop, she ultimately settled in Ottumwa, Iowa, where she established deep roots. Friends, family, and acquaintances remember her for a distinct warmth and thoughtfulness that defined her daily life. Across both communities, those who knew her reflected on the lasting influence of her generous spirit and her knack for finding the perfect item on routine shopping trips.
Legacy and Surviving Family
Davis’s primary focus remained firmly fixed on her children and grandchildren, taking her greatest happiness in watching her family grow and thrive. She is survived by her four sons—Charles, joined by Darshell, along with Albert, Benjamin, and Patrick—as well as her sister, Carolyn. Her memory also lives on through her ten grandchildren: Sontoya, Benjamin Jr., Pattrell, Kamir, Kameya, Paris, Priest, Patrick Jr., Desire, and Deanthony.

In passing, she joins her mother, Q Martin, her stepfather, Buster Martin, and her previously departed grandchildren, Patricia and Anthony Allen. Per her family’s arrangements, cremation has been accorded, and a celebration of life is scheduled to take place in Chicago.
