The Des Moines Art Center is hosting a Friendsgiving Social Saturday event, offering visitors a range of studio crafts, gallery activities, and film screenings, traveliowa.com reported.

The schedule gets underway at 11:15 a.m. in the Levitt Auditorium with an all-ages storytime running for fifteen minutes. Starting at noon and running through 2 p.m., the Levitt Auditorium hosts “A Taste of ReelAbilities,” a screening of recent short films from the ReelAbilities Film Festival, which is the largest festival in the United States dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories, and artistic expressions of people with disabilities. Event organizers note that films scheduled later in that two-hour program are intended for adult audiences.

Visitors can also join a guided tour for all ages starting at 1 p.m. by meeting in the Macomber Lobby. Drop-in activities run concurrently from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m across the museum galleries. Guests are invited to grab paper leaves in the lobby and place them in front of a work of art or museum object they feel grateful for, while an interactive Art Cart circulates through the galleries. Families can complete a scavenger hunt in the galleries and return their findings to the front desk for a small prize.

In the Macomber Lobby, teaching artists and students from the Art Center’s Community Access Program will have artwork on display to showcase community offerings alongside a Paint-n-Play station. Meanwhile, the Art School Studios will host unique Social Saturday art activities also organized by the Community Access Program.
