The Path Forward for 2,526 Civil Service Aspirants

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially cleared the next hurdle for thousands of hopefuls, announcing on Thursday the results of the 2026 Civil Services (Main) Examination. According to a statement released by the commission, 2,526 candidates have successfully qualified for the final stage of the selection process: the personality test, more commonly known as the interview.

This announcement marks the conclusion of the written phase held from August 21 to August 30. For the candidates who saw their roll numbers on the list, the transition from written assessment to personal evaluation is the gatekeeper for entry into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and the Indian Police Service (IPS), among other services.

UPSC Handles Digital Verification Without Paper Summons

With the written results now public, the focus shifts to the administrative rigor of the verification process. The commission has made it clear that there will be no physical, paper-based summons letters sent to candidates. Instead, all communication will be handled digitally through the official UPSC portal. Candidates are required to keep their original documents—covering everything from educational qualifications to age and community-based reservation claims—ready for scrutiny at the Dholpur House office in New Delhi.

The stakes for these documents are high. The UPSC emphasized that candidates seeking reservation benefits under SC, ST, OBC, EWS, or PwBD categories must produce original certificates issued by the closing date of the application for the Preliminary Examination, which was February 27, 2026. Any oversight here risks disqualification, as the commission maintains a strict stance on the validity of these credentials.

Tamil Nadu Qualifies More Candidates for Interviews

The results show how competitors stand against each other. In Tamil Nadu, for instance, 168 candidates have qualified for the interview round—an increase of seven compared to last year. Within that group, 79 aspirants from the state-run All India Civil Services Coaching Centre have successfully cleared the mains, setting the stage for intensive mock interview sessions led by subject experts and civil servants.

Nationwide, the journey for these 2,526 candidates is far from over. The final merit list is a weighted calculation: the written examination contributes 1,750 marks, while the personality test carries 275, bringing the total assessment to 2,025 marks. The interview schedule is likely to be held in February and March 2027, leaving a significant window for preparation.

The Administrative Verification Phase

Beyond the interview itself, candidates must complete the mandatory background verification process. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoP&T) requires successful candidates to complete an online attestation form. This document acts as a record of a candidate’s background, covering residential history over the past five years and detailed educational and professional records. The portal for this submission is set to open on November 11 and will remain active until November 25, 2026.

For inquiries regarding the attestation form, the candidates should contact the Department of Personnel & Training on E-mail ID: doais1@nic.in, usais-dopt@nic.in, or telephone Nos. 011-24010454/ 24010413. The commission has also warned that requests to reschedule the personality test dates will generally not be entertained, highlighting the rigid nature of the final selection phase.

While the list of successful candidates is now available on the official UPSC website, the final marksheets remain under lock and key. The UPSC has confirmed that these will only be uploaded to the website 15 days after the conclusion of all personality tests, remaining accessible for a 30-day window. For now, the 2,526 who qualified are left to wait for the interview schedule, the final chapter in a selection process that remains one of the most grueling in the country.
