Thierno Barry has transformed from a struggling debutant to Everton’s pivotal striker, matching his entire goal tally from last season in just 12 games this campaign. The 24-year-old French forward, who joined the club for £27m from Villarreal last summer, scored against Newcastle on Monday night, marking his second goal in five days and cementing his status as the Toffees’ most reliable attacker bbc.co.uk.
A Rapid Rebound
Barry’s 8 goals in 12 matches this season have outpaced his 8 in 41 appearances during his debut campaign, a stark contrast to his early struggles. His resurgence began with a 2-0 victory at St James’ Park, where he netted a tap-in goal from two yards out, a chance with an xG of 0.995 sports.yahoo.com. Despite the goal’s controversy—Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle alleged a foul on Fabian Schar in the build-up—Barry’s performance underscored his growing influence.
I was working a lot during the summer and now we can see the result,
Barry said after the match, reflecting on his turnaround. The season is long, but I’m happy to help the team with my goals.
His celebration, featuring a knee slide and dance moves, stood in sharp contrast to the emotional breakdown he shared in a private training session last month, a moment of vulnerability during a season where he managed just one shot in his first 16 Everton games archyde.com.
Central to Everton’s Attack
Barry’s role as Everton’s sole senior striker, following Beto’s move to Fiorentina, has amplified his importance. Prior to the Newcastle clash, the Toffees had recorded 24 big chances, with Barry involved in 15 of them—62.5% of the team’s high-value opportunities. However, his finishing has drawn scrutiny; in the same match, he scuffed a shot when unmarked after a flick-on from Jarrad Branthwaite newsminimalist.com.
Standing Out in the Premier League
Barry’s 8 goals this season place him second in the Premier League, behind Erling Haaland’s 13. His rapid ascent has also shifted betting odds, with his anytime-goalscorer lines heavily influenced by his current form. Despite his struggles, Barry’s £27m price tag has been vindicated by his current impact, as he now leads the league in attacking involvement Archyde.
As Everton aims to climb the Premier League table, Barry’s journey from a nightmare debut
to a hero reflects both his resilience and the club’s reliance on his evolving game. I want to enjoy more than last season,
he said, signaling a renewed focus on personal and team success.
