The BBC has released new images for the upcoming Christmas special of The Other Bennet Sister, a three-part special continuing the story of Mary Bennet following her wedding to Tom Hayward. The special, produced by Bad Wolf, features returning cast members including Ella Bruccoleri and Dónal Finn, with Nerys Amber Stocks joining as a new character. It will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK and on BritBox in the US and Canada.

Cast and Production Revealed

The Christmas special reunites the original cast of The Other Bennet Sister, including Ella Bruccoleri as Mary Bennet and Dónal Finn as Tom Hayward. Ruth Jones returns as Mrs. Bennet, a role she previously described as often quite cruel to her daughter, while Tanya Reynolds reprises her part as Caroline Bingley. Laurie Davidson, Poppy Gilbert, Maddie Close, Grace Hogg-Robinson, and Molly Wright also return as Mr. Ryder, Lizzie Darcy, Jane Bingley, Lydia Wickham, and Kitty Buncock, respectively. Newcomer Nerys Amber Stocks joins as Lucy, the Haywards’ housekeeper.

The special was commissioned by Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, for BBC iPlayer and BBC One, and by Jon Farrar, Chief Content Officer, Direct to Consumer, BBC Studios, for BritBox North America. Production was handled by Cardiff-based Bad Wolf, which also produced the first season. The Welsh Government supported the project via Creative Wales. Sony Pictures Television distributes the series internationally.

Screenwriter Sarah Quintrell, who wrote nine of the first season’s 10 episodes, has penned all three episodes of the special. Asim Abbasi returns to direct. The original series premiered in March and was filmed largely in Wales, drawing 6.5 million UK viewers in its first 28 days. Its first episode later reached 9.5 million viewers, and the show generated 250 million views across BBC’s TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook accounts.

Plot Teasers Shared

The first season of The Other Bennet Sister debuted in March, drawing 6.5 million UK viewers in its first 28 days and later reaching 9.5 million. The Christmas special will continue to follow Mary’s journey. The series is a spinoff of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, focusing on Mary, the oft-overlooked middle sister, as she deals with Regency-era societal pressures where marriage is both an aspiration and a necessity.

Availability Details Revealed

The three-part special will air exclusively on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK, with coverage on BritBox in the US and Canada. A release date has not yet been announced, though production concluded in August 2026. The series will also be distributed internationally by Sony Pictures Television.

Bad Wolf, the production company behind His Dark Materials and Industry, oversees the special, which is set to continue the series’ exploration of Regency-era societal pressures and the complexities of marriage. In the UK, the Christmas special will be broadcast on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, whereas in the US and Canada, it will also be accessible via BritBox.
