The driver whose vehicle caused a five-vehicle accident north of Harrison that left two people dead and four others hospitalized last December has been arrested and charged.
Charges Filed Following U.S. Highway 65 Collision
Christopher R. Langley, 53, of Jacksonville, faces four charges connected to the December 5 crash, including two counts of negligent homicide. According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Arkansas State Police, the collision occurred when Langley’s vehicle was traveling north on U.S. Highway 65, crossed the turn lane, and entered the southbound lane.
Investigators documented several warning signs leading up to the impact. Multiple motorists had called in the vehicle to report erratic driving behavior prior to the crash. One driver reportedly followed Langley’s vehicle for 30 minutes while observing the episode on the highway.
When questioned by a state trooper after the accident, Langley stated that he felt his blood sugar was low. He told authorities he tried to eat peanut butter, but subsequently experienced double vision and rode up on the curb multiple times before losing his remaining memory of the event. Troopers later located an open jar of peanut butter on the floor of Langley’s vehicle.
Two Residents Die in Collision as Driver Faces Charges
The collision claimed the lives of two Harrison residents: 30-year-old Breonna M. Martin and 69-year-old James E. Ramsey. Four other individuals sustained injuries, including 51-year-old Joshua E. Massengale and 18-year-old Hayden T. Martin, both of Harrison, alongside 28-year-old Brock D. Andreasen of Jefferson City and Langley himself.
Langley is facing two misdemeanor counts of negligent homicide, alongside single misdemeanor counts of driving left of center and inadequate insurance during an accident. He has been released after posting a $5,000 bond.
