Connecticut Forecast: Near-Record Warmth and Sunny Skies This Week

Connecticut residents are trading their heavy outerwear for light sweaters this week as an unseasonable warm-up pushes afternoon temperatures toward the 70-degree mark, offering a brief, dry extension for anyone rushing to finish outdoor chores before winter sets in.

Temperatures will climb toward 70 degrees Tuesday before an even warmer Wednesday puts some inland communities within reach of record highs, according to local reporting from NewsTimes. While the mild stretch won’t completely rewrite the climate record books, it delivers a pair of afternoons that feel much more like early September than the first week of November.

High Pressure and Southwest Breezes Drive the Warm Front

The sudden shift in weather comes courtesy of a strong ridge of high pressure parked over the eastern United States. This atmospheric pattern creates a broad northward bump in the jet stream, channeling warmer air directly into the Northeast while encouraging sinking air and quiet skies.

FORECAST: Record warmth, plus an end to the long dry stretch

At the surface, high pressure is maintaining a steady southwest flow that draws milder air across the state. Combined with clear November sunshine, these dynamics push afternoon readings roughly 10 to 20 degrees above normal for this time of year.

Location Tuesday Forecast Tuesday Record & Year Wednesday Forecast Wednesday Record & Year
Bradley International Airport (Windsor Locks) ~73°F 78°F (1990) ~74°F 78°F (1987)
Sikorsky Memorial Airport (Bridgeport) Upper 60s 74°F (2003, 2016) ~70°F 78°F (1975)

Normal highs for early November are much more typical of the calendar, sitting at 57 degrees on Tuesday and 56 degrees on Wednesday at Bradley International Airport, according to historical averages tracked between 1991 and 2020. In Bridgeport, the normal high rests at 58 degrees for both dates.

How Close Will Temperatures Get to Records?

Tuesday’s readings should reach the upper 60s to lower 70s across much of Connecticut. The Hartford area is projected to hit around 71 degrees, while shoreline communities like Bridgeport settle comfortably in the upper 60s under partly to mostly sunny skies.

Wednesday looks even warmer for inland areas. The Hartford region could reach the middle 70s, and shoreline temperatures will climb right around 70 degrees. Yet, topping actual records requires an unusual surge. At Bradley International Airport, Tuesday’s record high stands at 78 degrees from 1990, leaving the forecast about five degrees short. Wednesday’s record at Bradley is also 78 degrees, set back in 1987, meaning temperatures would need to overperform significantly to tie it.

Down along the coast at Sikorsky Memorial Airport, Tuesday’s record high of 74 degrees was reached in both 2003 and 2016. Bridgeport’s expected upper-60s reading falls five to seven degrees shy of that mark. Meanwhile, Wednesday’s record in Bridgeport is 78 degrees, set in 1975, keeping it comfortably out of reach with forecasts hovering near 70.

When Does the Cold Air Return?

The unseasonable comfort has a firm expiration date. Meteorological conditions will shift later in the week as cloud cover builds across the region, bringing an increasing chance of rain from Friday into early Saturday.

Until the precipitation arrives and cooler air reasserts itself, residents have a narrow window to enjoy the bonus warmth before the heavy jackets go back on full-time duty.
