For more than two decades, Corazon has served as a fixture of the Minneapolis retail landscape, evolving from a Warehouse District newcomer into a Longfellow neighborhood staple. As reported by Mpls.St.Paul Magazine on November 5, 2026, the boutique is now undergoing a physical and structural transformation.
Expanding the Footprint in Longfellow
The shop, founded in 2005 by longtime retail buyer and sales rep Susan Zdon, has long operated within a 900-square-foot space. That limited square footage historically constrained the store’s ability to host elaborate displays or community-focused events. That constraint is now being lifted as Corazon expands into the adjacent storefront formerly occupied by Papa Murphy’s.
This physical growth marks a pivot in how the business engages with its clientele. By moving beyond its original footprint, the shop is creating dedicated room for emerging artists—many of whom utilize the boutique for consignment as they scale their own brands. The expansion includes a new workshop space designed to host classes ranging from rug tufting and mosaic making to a planned fix-it clinic.
Next Generation Prepares to Take over Corazon
The expansion coincides with a transition in leadership. Founder Susan Zdon is preparing for retirement, with her son, Max, and his wife, Sam, in the process of taking over the business. Rather than reinvent Corazon, the incoming generation intends to maintain the shop’s original ethos, which currently sees approximately two-thirds of its inventory sourced from local makers.
Max said that he and Sam are excited to make it kind of an experience beyond just a store regarding the shift toward more interactive retail concepts.
This evolution includes the introduction of seasonal “shops within the shop.” These temporary concepts will feature tightly edited assortments, beginning with a candy shop slated for the winter season.
The Economic Stakes for Local Makers
By providing a retail outlet for ceramics, jewelry, and apothecary goods, Corazon serves as a bridge between independent artisans and the consumer market.
The shop is located at 4646 E. Lake St. in Minneapolis.
