A Sudden Loss Across the Capital District’s Medical Community
Jeff Wadler spent more than three decades caring for patients across Hudson, Catskill, Amsterdam, and St. Johnsville, moving from his work as an EMT and paramedic to his role as a PA in emergency rooms and urgent cares. Born on July 6, 1968, in Fleischmanns, NY—a place he wryly described as being “centrally located in the middle of nowhere”—he built a life rooted in the Capital District centered around medicine, community service, and a remarkably sharp, dry humor.
From Emergency Rigs to Clinical Diagnostics
Wadler passed away suddenly on Tuesday evening, leaving behind his wife, Bess, and their children, Abigail and Sam. His sudden loss has resonated deeply across the region’s medical, Jewish, and local communities where he lent his time as a former Trustee of the Western Turnpike Rescue Squad, a member of Congregation Ohav Shalom, and a former parent and Trustee of the Hebrew Academy of the Capital District.
Colleagues and patients knew Wadler not just as a clinician, but as an educator determined to make people understand their own health. Whether he was explaining the mechanics of stopping a sucking chest wound or casually debating trivia, his mind operated with an encyclopedic breadth that often caught people off guard. That same relentless intellect fueled a humor that leaned comfortably into gallows territory, invariably breaking tension in high-stress clinical environments.
