Nashville Villains Dominate Huntsville Heroes 75-19 in Halloween Match

Dressed in Halloween costumes rather than traditional kits, the Nashville “Villains” defeated the Huntsville “Heroes” 75-19 on Saturday in a festive women’s rugby match.

Nashville Capitalizes on Early Turnovers

Nashville seized control early in the game by capitalizing on a quick Huntsville turnover. That led to an opening try and a missed conversion, putting Nashville ahead 5-0. The match settled into a defensive struggle between the 22-meter lines until just before the 20-minute mark. Nashville then broke through with structured phase play, successfully converting the try to extend the lead to 12-0.

First-Half Surge Establishes Dominant Lead

Another defensive stand preceded Nashville’s next score. Off a scrum near the 22-meter lines, Nashville exploited an open gap for a try, making it 17-0. After a period of back-and-forth possessions, Nashville pushed hard through the middle for another try. Moments before halftime, an aggressive run gained significant territory and set up the final score of the half, sending Nashville into the break with a 31-0 advantage.

Huntsville Answers with Quick Second-Half Score

Huntsville answered immediately to start the second half. Following an exchange of possessions, the Heroes found a defensive gap capped off by a try from Jen Larson, who also hit her own conversion to bring the score to 31-7. On the ensuing kickoff, Huntsville’s Drew Graham caught the ball inside her own 22 and carved through the defense for a breakaway try. Larson connected on the subsequent conversion, trimming Nashville’s lead to 31-14.

Depleted Bench Shifts Momentum Back to Villains

With Huntsville’s bench depleted by injuries, Nashville quickly reclaimed momentum. Forcing a turnover on the following possession, Nashville kept up the offensive pressure and touched the ball past the try line six more times, converting three of those attempts to push the score to 75-14.

Late Grit Caps Festive Rugger Encounter

Despite playing without substitutes as the match wound down, Huntsville maintained its grit until the final whistle. In the closing moments, Larson delivered a precise kick that connected with Graham for her second try of the day. Larson’s final conversion attempt missed, leaving the final score at 75-19.

Brandon Raley and his wife are newer members of the Huntsville Rugby Club, playing for the Space Cowboys and Supernovas respectively, marking their first year with the club.
