Waterloo Black Hawks beat Lincoln Stars 5-1 on three power-play goals

Waterloo Capitalizes on Power-Plays as Lincoln Falls 5-1

Waterloo Black Hawks forward Keegan Davis found himself open in front of the net just under three minutes into the game, firing home his second goal of the season to set the tone for the evening. The Lincoln Stars (4-9-1-0) ultimately fell 5-1 against the Waterloo Black Hawks on Friday night, hampered by special teams struggles and the Black Hawks capitalizing on mental errors.

Evan Malkhassian answered for Lincoln with a goal on a strong rush to tie the game at one. The deadlock held through the first intermission despite a late Waterloo power-play.

Second-Period Penalties Shift Momentum

The second period opened with Lincoln controlling the pace. The Stars out-shot Waterloo 6-2 through the first ten minutes of the frame, pressing for the go-ahead score. Instead, Waterloo capitalized on a pair of power-plays with goals from Miles Jinman and Caleb Deanovich to build a 3-1 lead heading into the second intermission.

Mental errors in the third period compounded Lincoln’s difficulties. The Black Hawks turned those mistakes into a 5-1 advantage in the blink of an eye, converting three power-play goals over the course of the contest to secure the win on home ice.

Upcoming Action at the Ice Box

The Lincoln Stars return to action on Saturday night at the Ice Box at 6:05 p.m. to face Waterloo once again. The matchup marks Salute to Service Night, presented by Folds of Honor, with tickets available at the team’s official site.

Established in 1996, the Lincoln Stars compete in the Western Conference of the United States Hockey League, playing home games at the Ice Box in Lincoln, Nebraska. The franchise has captured four Anderson Cups and two Clark Cups in its history as part of the top junior hockey league in the United States.
