Laura Rae Richardson, a long-time Kansas City resident who spent two decades with the city’s water department, passed away Monday, November 2, 2026, at the age of 64, Thurman Funeral Home reported. Her death followed a hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s disease at Seasons Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Kansas City.
Born in Topeka, Kansas, on January 8, 1962, she was the daughter of Thomas Dale and Beulah May (Tindell) Sisco. Raised and educated in Richmond, Richardson built a steady career in public service working as a permit writer for the City of Kansas City Water Department for 20 years.
Life Outside the Office
Away from her municipal work, Richardson built a vibrant personal life centered around family, travel, and eclectic hobbies. She found joy on the open road riding motorcycles and spent countless weekends at the Lake of the Ozarks, where she enjoyed fishing and gathering with loved ones.
Known for her affection for thrift store shopping, she was always on the hunt for hidden treasures and unique additions to her collection of Snoopy memorabilia. She also shared a special bond with her significant other, Mitch Cox, with whom she made lasting memories, including a cruise.

Richardson is survived by her significant other, Mitch Cox, of the home; her son, Samuel (Susan) Sisco, of Kansas City; her stepson, Steven (Katelyn) Cox, of Leavenworth, Kansas; her grandson, Carter Cox; and her brother, Richard Dean (Peggy) Sisco, of Camden/Richmond.
