Following a White House push to replace federal terminology, Elon Musk announced plans to rebrand SpaceX’s artificial intelligence division to SpaceXSI, marking a quick name change for the business unit less than three months after its previous rebrand.

The proposed rebrand follows a series of early morning posts on X where Elon Musk declared No more AI and confirmed that the artificial intelligence unit would adopt the new designation. The shift aligns with an initiative led by Washington to replace the term artificial intelligence with superintelligence across government communications.

Federal Vocabulary Changes Trigger the Rebrand

While the White House mandated the vocabulary shift for federal documents, peer technology laboratories have largely retained the original terminology. Major AI developers continue using conventional phrasing, and California state agencies were ordered to maintain standard vocabulary. Meanwhile, corporate leaders have split in their adoption: Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang embraced related framing by describing advanced computing facilities as superintelligence factories, whereas other industry chief executives have kept to established phrasing.

A Quick Succession of Corporate Names for SpaceX

If formalized, the transition to SpaceXSI will stand as one of the shortest-lived corporate identifiers within Musk’s corporate portfolio. The division has operated under three different labels since February, following a series of structural integrations and rebranding efforts.

  • February 2: SpaceX acquired xAI in an all-stock deal that valued the combined company at $1.25 trillion.
  • May: Musk announced plans to dissolve xAI as a separate corporate entity.
  • July: The division officially adopted the SpaceXAI moniker alongside a new logo.
  • October 4: Musk proposed the shift to SpaceXSI following federal policy updates.

As of Sunday morning, the company had issued no formal announcements regarding a timeline, and its primary account handle on X remained unchanged. Observers noted that the division’s leadership did not immediately respond to media inquiries regarding whether the update represents a formal legal renaming or merely a brand styling adjustment.

Financial Realities Beneath the Corporate Label

Market analysts note that modifying a corporate label alters none of the underlying financial metrics, cash flows, or infrastructure commitments. During the second quarter, the AI division generated $2.56 billion in revenue, marking a 247% increase year over year. That total comprised $2.19 billion from AI Solutions & Infrastructure, alongside $367 million from advertising operations.

Capital expenditures across the broader business reached $18.37 billion in the same period, with $15.83 billion directed straight into AI compute infrastructure, resulting in a net loss of $541 million. The division houses major assets including the Grok chatbot, training clusters located in Memphis, and Cursor.

Trump stated in a speech before the United Nations General Assembly that all American documents and global records should utilize the term super intelligence instead of artificial. Musk’s company, Space Exploration Technologies, plans to rebrand its artificial intelligence unit from SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI to conform with this initiative. The stock currently trades at $173.94, up 19.57% over the past week, for a current market cap of roughly $1.34 trillion. SpaceXAI did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

Musk’s company was previously described as a competitor to OpenAI and Anthropic prior to the structural changes. Musk and Trump experienced an earlier rift over a tax bill during the early days of Trump’s second term before largely reconciling.
