State Route 51 and US 60 Face Weekend Closures for Construction Work
Right in the heart of the capital city, southbound State Route 51 is shut down from Cactus Road to Northern Avenue for pavement work. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, also seals off the on-ramps stretching from Bell Road to 26th Street. Transportation officials are directing motorists to use southbound Seventh Street as an alternate route.
Meanwhile, US 60 (Grand Avenue) is blocked in both directions from 27th Avenue to Thomas Road for bridge work during the exact same weekend window. Local traffic looking for east-west passage is being funneled toward Encanto Boulevard or Thomas Road, while north-south drivers are suggested to use 27th Avenue or 23rd Avenue.

Out in the East Valley, a widening project has closed the westbound Loop 202 San Tan Freeway between Gilbert Road and Arizona Avenue. On-ramps from San Tan Village Parkway to McQueen Road are closed, with state planners suggesting westbound Pecos Road or Germann Road to reconnect with the loop at Arizona Avenue or Alma School Road.
West Valley Projects and Local Events in Tempe
The West Valley is absorbing weekend closures. The eastbound Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway is closed from 51st Avenue to 27th Avenue for a widening project, with on-ramps blocked from 75th Avenue to 59th Avenue. Eastbound I-10 is closed from Verrado Way to Citrus Road for a widening project, halting on-ramps from Miller Road to Perryville Road. Further north, eastbound Loop 303 is closed from 43rd Avenue to I-17 for bridge work. Westbound Loop 303 will be narrowed to one lane in the same area.
