Three Teens Charged in East Baltimore Carjacking and Fatal Hit-and-Run That Claimed Life of 24-Year-Old Father
Three teens are facing criminal charges in connection to a deadly hit-and-run in East Baltimore, police announced Friday morning. Baltimore Police identified the driver of the carjacked car as a 15-year-old boy.
The fatal incident unfolded on Oct. 23. At around 10:50 p.m., Browner—a father to a three-year-old girl—was struck and killed by a carjacked 2009 red Toyota Corolla. In the immediate aftermath of the crash, investigators released photos of four individuals who reportedly exited the vehicle and fleeing the scene. Police noted that two of those suspects returned to the scene to remove items from the car.
Charges Filed as Police Search for Fourth Suspect
Authorities announced Friday that a 15-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy were passengers in the car. Detectives are still working to identify a fourth suspect who was in the vehicle.
The 15-year-old driver faces manslaughter, robbery and hit-and-run charges. The female minor faces allegations of motor vehicle theft, while her 14-year-old male counterpart is accused of armed carjacking. Custody of the two boys is currently held by the Department of Juvenile Services, whereas the girl has been ordered to remain on house arrest.
Community Grief and Family Calls for Accountability
These apprehensions took place subsequent to a large gathering where numerous people assembled at Harford Road and Homestead Street to hold a memorial service honoring Browner. Neighbors expressed both sorrow over the man’s death and dismay at the ages of those implicated.
“It’s sad that it takes incidents like this for a community to come together like that,” neighbor Michael Spruill told WBAL-TV 11 News. “So that’s why we can’t let his name go in vain.”
“It’s definitely a huge relief. They caught three of the four (suspects) so of course we’re praying that every one of them is caught and held accountable,” said Kyra Robinson, the mother of Browner’s child. “They know exactly what they were doing and when they came back to the scene (after the crash), that was enough for me. There’s no remorse.”
Robinson remembered Browner as a good person and father. “He was an everyday father. (Our daughter) has so many more things to see in life, and they were supposed to see them together. Now a lifetime of memories with her; just snatched away from her,” Robinson said. “I just hope people continue to play his music, and just get to know who he was, the man, his life, everything.”
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward to assist in their investigation.
